Recipe 1: Turkey and Onion Omelette

(A Clark Family regular, a light breakfast on weekends)

First of all, sorry for the terrible picture, my camera sucks and after making this plate I was ready to tear our my hair (mistakes were made). While it isn't rocket science, there are a couple pointers I can give related to this dish that won't end with stuck-on egg or burnt meat.

(Prep time-5 minutes        Cook time-10 minutes        2 servings)

Ingredients:

  • 4 eggs, white
  • 2 slices of turkey or ham lunch meat, substitutable with any meat product
  • 1 raw onion
  • Margarine or Butter for coating

Tools:
  • 1 small frying pan
  • spatula or wooden spoon
  • cutting board
  • small knife, preferably a butcher knife
  • small bowl for mixing
  • fork and knife
Instructions:
  1. Crack eggs into small bowl and use fork to whisk eggs thoroughly
  2. Dice lunch meat and desired amount of onion on cutting board (extra ingredients are always welcome)
  3. Scoop about a spoonful of butter/margarine into pan and set to medium-high heat
  4. Once pan has become warm (noticeable by butter sizzling), pour in diced meat and onion and constantly stir ingredients until the butter begins to disappear or meat browns (whichever occurs first)
  5. Once meat and onion combination has been cooked, lower heat and pour in scrambled egg mix
  6. Allow eggs and toppings to mix and wait till the mixture begins to lift from the pan (noticeable by eggs bubbling near the rim
  7. Flip omelette over and allow the other side to cook (2-5  minutes)
  8. Remove from pan once the omelette begins to brown, as the omelette will continue cooking outside the pan
  9. Ta-da, easy as pie (egg pie, hehe)
Tips for this recipe:
  • Spices are a welcome sight for this recipe and should be added whilst mixing the eggs before they venture to the frying pan
    • Suggestions include: Oregano, Italian seasoning, Cilantro, and Garlic powder
  • Though this recipe uses turkey and onion, any vegetable or meat works in an omelette
    • Some favorites are: Ground beef, tomatoes, chili, bell peppers, and cheese
  • Do not disturb the cooking eggs and meat mixture too often, as this can lead to stuck-on egg or meat (no bueno)
A simple yet creative dish, an omelette a very malleable breakfast dish. I enjoy eating these saturday mornings with my brother and sister, which is ironic because by brother showed me how to make my first omelette (cue fail music or sad gif). I best enjoy them a little overcooked (browning prominent) with cheese, beef, and chili my dad makes.
