It's basic, it's quick, it's the quesadilla's carb-ridden cousin: The Grilled Cheese! A very simple lunchtime meal or a partner to a goods soup, this sandwich is as easy to make as toast (given that it's ingredients don't skew veery far). A grilled cheese only takes minutes to prepare and can be loaded with veggies and meats to make it an even heftier side-dish or a full meal. Below is a very basic instructional guide to making a Grilled Cheese:
Prep Time 2 minutes Cook Time 5-8 minutes Serves: One Sandwich
Ingredients:
- Two pieces of any kind of bread (I like Wheat and Sourdough)
- Two slices of cheese or as much shredded cheese as you please (poet and I know it)
- Butter to spread
- Meat of choice (optional, keep it low)
Tools:
- Butter Knife
- Spatula
Instructions:
- Spread a light coat of butter on one side of each piece of bread
- Bring a griddle or pan to medium to medium-high heat
- Lay buttered side of bread onto the griddle/pan and lay cheese (and optional meat) on the side of each slice facing you
- Allow the cheese to melt and the buttered sides to brown (about 2-4 minutes)
- Use spatula to flip one slice of bread/cheese onto the other slice and allow the sandwich to brown
- Continue to flip until the sandwich has browned to one's liking
- Remove, slice in halves or quarters and enjoy!
